    Product Description

Is it a Pen?...Is it a balisong? Yes! It's the Zippy BaliQuill, a toy butterfly knife trainer that uses almost any standard pen size. Combine balisong flipping and pen spinning with this school & office-friendly pen balisong toy. Unlike other pen-balisongs, the BaliQuill is sized and balanced specifically for flipping, with hollow handles that enable balance customization.

    Features

    • Semi-Universal Pen Adapter is compatible with most standard-sized pens.
    • Hollow handles enable you to customize the handle weight with almost anything, including water, metal bb's, rocks, or anything you can think of to create a balance profile that suits your pen, whether it's the included plastic pen, or a pen made of Titanium or steel.
      • It's not perfectly water proof, so be prepared to spray everything around you with a light mist if you choose to fill it with water!
    • Excellent durability: Eat concrete drops without fear.
    • Includes 1x Bic pen.
    • Cuneiform is the oldest known written language. It was used by the Sumerians in ancient Mesopotamia (~3500 BCE) and now graces the handles of the BaliQuill to add grip.

Really fun product

The Zippy BaliQuill is not only a really fun flipper, but its also an opening for experimentation with a bunch of new weights and just finding random things that are thin enough to fit in the adspter (the best thing so far was a drum stick.) It helps also being super public friendly and it takes falls like a champ. My setup with it right now is a Sharpie S Gel with airsoft .12g bbs. Its slightly pen biased which is what I’m unfamiliar with but it’s always fun to try to try different things without having a million different knives. Not saying you shouldn’t buy anymore but it’s a quick and fun way to change how you are flipping.

Good quality but too light to flip

Can't really do anything with it as it is flimsy. There is no metal on it anywhere. Weighs almost nothing so you can't do anything with it.

Hi Sydney, I'm sorry you found the BaliQuill too light for flipping. Did you try adding weights to the handles? The handles are hollow and are intended to be filled with weights such as bb's, rocks to provide mass for flipping. I hope that helps. Best regards, David

BaliQuill makes me not worry about flipping in public

Okay so this is going to be a fairly lengthy review because I do absolutely love this thing but do feel like there are some caveats and things the consumer should know. Also keep in mind the price point as I’m giving all of these details.

—-Firstly, I’m not 100% sure who this is for, other than me. It feels like you’d get off better with having more experience with a balisong so you know what your preferences are, rather than getting this for a new balisong flipper. That said, tolerances aren’t good. If you’ve ever had the experience of flipping a bali with pressed pins, expect roughly the same experience. It’s not a great beginner flipper because of the tolerances… but I do feel like giving this to a kid has very few downsides.

—-Next, this is probably going to be the most experimental zippy product you get. By that I mean that…There isn’t an exact formula to make it feel “good” yet. It isn’t water tight but water can fill the gap for some time if you need it to. The space in the handles is fairly small but not so much so that you can’t think of some things to weigh it down.

——I ended up finding some smaller sized rocks and filling the handles with them. I think in hindsight I’d probably recommend something like metal bb’s for more uniformity; I had to stick a paper clip to poke the rocks down the handle as they would get stuck. I don’t think my handles are perfectly balanced, but I’d say they’re probably within about 3-5% of eachother which feels good enough for me. You could theoretically balance the pen portion on a table and let the handles dangle and see which one goes down first if you’re concerned that the weight is off between the two handles. I also subbed out the provided bic capped pen for a sharpie s-gel (this is a factor later) that has a metal body for more weight. At this point I was feeling like the handles were a bit too light compared to the blade, so I added some tungsten balls to the inside of the handles but they ended up traveling up the handles as I flipped.

—my current final form BaliQuill is rocks in handles, zippy weight caps with 2 tungsten beads (one on the side that holds one and one on the side that holds two) on each handle and sharpie s-gel with a metal body… and this thing is a surprisingly competent flipper.

——it’s also important to consider what pen you’ll be using. I used a sharpie s gel with metal body for weight and love the overall feel of the BaliQuill… however, the sharpie s gel is a clicker pen, not a pen with a lid. For some reason the sharpie s gel versus G-forces associated with flipping causes massive leakage. My work shirt is allllll inked up from flipping. My hands and arms are even worse. This is obviously my problem, but since I can’t access the clicker to click the pen when it’s in the baliquill, it had to stay open all the time and therefore was ready to mark me up at a moments notice. Add in that the ink kinda pools to the tip when you’re flipping and you could feasibly end up whipping ink everywhere. Be careful.

—- It’s not competitive, it’s not “good” by modern qualifications… but it is a bali, it is something that won’t scare the unaware, and it is something that will be hard to be taken away from you for any of the reasons a normal bali would be. This has already earned a spot in my pocket EDC just for the sole purpose of not wanting to freaking people out but wanting to flip. And again, it’s surprisingly competent. I can do chadders, choker fans, bt8bs, shortstops… fans feel like there’s a bit to be desired, but I think that’s more of a tolerance thing. I can get 2 rotations on a palm fan very regularly and 3 if I help it a bit… and that’s my idle/thinking trick. There are limitations, for sure, but it can also perform, for sure.

—-I also just bought a blade-less bali for the same reason a few months ago and have flipped it maybe twice. I really hate that thing. The quill fills the hole that bali was supposed to… and if I want the blade-less feel like that bali was supposed to offer, I can remove the pen and have the same experience.

—Oh and like another reviewer mentioned, this is a much better flipper than bali-yo and has much worse tolerances. The tolerances really aren’t that big of a thing though, I promise. This is a gap filler, not meant to be overly competitive.

—that said, I might be in the market for a premium Bali quill some day. Think I’m gonna edit this to try to add a video, but gonna post the text so I don’t lose it all. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram with any questions.

International shipping

International Shipping

Zippy ships international, but the buyer accepts the risk for lost, damaged, or seized packages-it is the customer's responsibility to comply with all local laws and regulations when importing and using this product. It is the customer's responsibilities to be aware of all import requirements when ordering, including but not limited to paying customs/import/duty fees. All international customers: it is your responsibility to looking up your country's customs requirements when you order to ensure you are in compliance, and interface with your country's customs and pay all associated fees if necessary.

For EU customers, be advised that customs will apply a VAT fee of approximately 30€ for importing products that exceed 100€. This is subject to change depending on up-to-date EU regulations; it is the customer's responsibility to verify this at the time of your purchase.

For questions and concerns (looking at you, Aussies), please contact me at zippybalisong@gmail.com. If the Zippy is shipped in 2 packages, you will need to assemble the trainer.

My package hasn't arrived, or my package is lost; what should I do?

Noooooo! Don't panic yet. So far I've never actually had a package get lost in the mail, although delays with USPS aren't unheard of, especially if the shipping is international. If you're a US-customer and your package is lost in the mail, appears lost in the mail, or was marked delivered but wasn't actually delivered, call the USPS immediately (1-800-275-8777)**. The faster they get on the case, the more likely you'll reach a timely resolution and get your Zippy ASAP. You can email me about it, but once I ship it out, I don't have access to any additional information that you don't--I'm just going to refer you to call the shipping carrier for resolution.

**Some tips when calling USPS:
(1) Do not use speakerphone, as this will confuse the automated system.
(2) From the automated menu, say "Package," and follow the prompts with your tracking number.
(3) When it offers "visual mode," I recommend you use it. It's faster and more streamlined.
(4) At the end of the automated system which will track your (delayed) package, say "agent" or "representative" so you can speak to an agent and explain the issue.
(5) Sometimes they only allow the sender to open an investigation. If that's the case, shoot me an email asking for the shipping label, and then use the return address information on the shipping label to provide the sender information.

If you are an international customer and your package hasn't arrived yet, contact your local postal service that interfaces with USPS to evaluate the situation--worst case scenario you may need to reach out to customs to see if your package made it through or was seized. It is the customer's responsibility to comply with all local laws and regulations when importing my products.

Hopefully your package is just delayed (this is generally the case when a package appears lost), but if it is actually lost in the mail, I'm very sorry. Believe it or not, it's just as heartbreaking for me as it is for you, since I make every balisong myself and put a lot of love into each one. Unfortunately, I am unable to take responsibility for packages that get lost in the mail (or seized by customs). I offer a variety of shipping options which have different levels of pricing and reliability/risk, and it's up to you to choose what is best for you. I am unable to replace lost packages for free, since each product takes me a considerable amount of time and financial investment to make; I'm not a big Amazon company that manufactures their stuff overseas. Thank you for understanding.

Warranty & Returns

Warranty

If part of the Zippy breaks within 1 year of purchase and it affects functionality, I will replace it for free. Contact me at zippybalisong@gmail.com

In order to qualify for this policy, the issue must affect the function of the unit. Normal wear and tear (including scratches and dings caused by repeated impact) is not covered by this warranty unless it affects the functionality of the balisong or I determine it to be the result of a manufacturing defect.

Return Policy

Thank you so much for considering my products. I am a one-man shop, so unfortunately I am unable to accept returns or refund requests. Most of my products are made to order, and for this reason I do not accept cancellation requests, since most likely I have already begun work on your parts. I appreciate your understanding and support for my small business.
